Guglielmetti, Mark
This paper considers art and Artificial Life vis-à-vis the development and creation of new modes of realism. A brief sketch of the current conditions that underpin much in Artificial Life provides an alternative framework in which to consider Artificial Life screen-based artworks. Employing a ëmedia ecologicalí approach, the research explores the relationship between Artificial Life screenbased art and the broader digitally mediated landscape for the purpose of developing alternative modes of realism. These ideas are explored in the artwork Laboratories of thought and experimentations for future forms of subjectivation. Examining the representational codes and conventions associated with perspective and threedimensional digital space the artwork provides a foundation and lens through which to further explore representational codes and conventions in Artificial Life.
